Thank Goodness for Technology in the Boston Bombing

There are some people worried about “Big Brother” and the government “watching over people”. Though, think about all these technologies that aided in the relatively quick resolution of the Boston bombing tragedy. Without video, photos, social media, cell phones, and various other technologies it would be much harder for suspects to be found and/or captured. I doubt this would have ended this quickly.
It’s imposible for law enforcement officials to be everywhere at once. However, it is easy to access and share technologies across the globe. Making it much easier to find and catch anyone doing something to harm other people. If people knew on every street corner there was someone “watching” it would probably make them think about causing mayhem. Imagine all vehicles had GPS pre-installed and were connected wirelessly too. It would be much harder for any vehicle to get away and the vehicle could be disabled remotely. Not only that, you could monitor law enforcement officials to make sure they are doing their job properly. It’s a two-way street.
This is all about transparency. I think the more transparent people are in their life, the less likely they are going to have any problems with government officials. If people are doing nothing wrong, there is no reason to do anything to them. They are producing for the economy, which is the engine of the government. There isn’t enough time to go through every single piece of data to thoroughly analyze it. That’s why there are keywords and specific things to look for when finding potential problems. I would tend to think the less transparent someone is, the more likely they would be targeted, merely, because of the lack of information available. It would make me think, what are they hiding? In all reality, if the government wants any information from someone, they will get it.
All this worry about government take overs and what not seems a little ridiculous. The government has a great business. Why would it implode it’s own business? The solution to prevention comes down to the integrity of the leaders we choose. However, we have the branches of government too, so the odds of having a dictator are low. In an incident of dictatorship, not only could the people peacefully revolt, but the other branches of government could remove the President from office. Why would any U.S. President in their right mind do that?
As technology becomes more and more prevalent throughout the world. It seems like a great accountability tool for everyone; people and government officials. If we maintain the integrity of the technological systems. Would someone do bad things if they knew their “big brother” was going to be with them wherever they go? Probably not or at least they would think twice about it.
