No Internet? Don’t Panic! Use Google’s Email Offline

Some people shy away from using Google’s email in a web browser, because they are concerned that when they don’t have internet (i.e. on a plane) they won’t be able to do email. However, it is possible to do email without being connected to the internet. There are a couple ways to do this, but one is very simple and easy.
You could connect your google email to Outlook or some other 3rd party email client, but there is some configuration involved to get it to work. Luckily, Google’s Chrome browser has an add-on tool that will do this for you without any configuration. All you have to do is log-in to your account(s). If you are already logged in to your account(s), it’s just a matter of downloading and installing the add-on. Here is how you get it done.
If you haven’t already, download and install Google’s Chrome browser. After the install, launch the web browser. Look in the lower right corner and you should see “Web Store’ button in the corner. If you don’t, open a new tab and then you will see it. Click on the ‘Web Store’ button and in the search bar enter ‘Gmail Offline’. The search should show the app to install. Click ‘Add to Chrome’ and confirm the install. This will take you to the apps section of Chrome. Now click and launch the app. It will open up the Offline version of Google Mail. If you are already logged in to your regular email account(s) for google, then start working on email. If you have more than one account, you can toggle between them in the lower left corner. Hopefully this provided a practical solution to using Google’s email offline for any time you lose your internet connection.
